In the past few years, the destruction of rainforests in Indonesia has reached an alarming level. The main reason behind this increasing deforestation is the plantation of oil palm trees. Ernest Zacharevic, an artist from Lithuania, has a unique way to raise awareness about it.

is "raising awareness" really doing anything though? I've been aware for like a decade. It isn't getting any better. I've seen interviews with the government officials in indonesia in charge of fixing the situation and they do not give me any confidence that anything real is being done. Meanwhile, companies stamp "made with sustainable palm oil" on their products as if that does anything. Consumers, even if they look for this, are just putting on blinders to the problem. In global commodities markets, if there is any black market at all, the whole market is effectively tainted. We've seen this with diamonds. We've seen this with rare metals. We've seen this with other commodities. There is no such thing as "sustainable palm oil". Every company needs to change their recipes. Period. There is no other solution.

That's the awareness that should be raised.
