#^PeerTube v3 : it’s a live, a liiiiive !

Today we are releasing a major new version of PeerTube, our alternative to centralized video platforms like YouTube.

I took part in the crowdfunding and nice to see that the live feature really made it.

#^Browsh - A fully interactive, realtime and modern browser rendered to TTY
Image/photo
Browsh is a fully-modern text-based browser. It renders anything that a modern browser can; HTML5, CSS3, JS, video and even WebGL. Its main purpose is to be run on a remote server and accessed via SSH/Mosh or the in-browser HTML service in order to significantly reduce bandwidth and thus both increase browsing speeds and decrease bandwidth costs.

#WTF #KDE :sigh

#^âš™ D23958 Remove the web archiving plugin
It's only implemented for KHTML and depends heavily on DOM access API.

Not even showing thumbnails of old archives anymore?!? :headdesk

I use this plugin to archive articles and sites for over 15 years... #vendorlockin I will start printing everything on dead trees... :-!

#^Plasma: A Safe Haven for Windows 7 Refugees
Image/photo

A fully functional Plasma desktop with a Windows 7 theme. Microsoft will stop providing updates for Windows 7 on January 14 2020. There won't be any more patches that correct bugs or even dangerous vulnerabilities. This will leave Windows 7 users exposed to all sorts of bad stuff. But that is not a huge concern for Microsoft. With this move, Redmond hopes to encourage users to upgrade to Windows 10. But why should we care? Maybe because Windows currently holds 77% of the global desktop market share (all Linux desktops combined hold less than 2%). Of that 77%, nearly 30% belongs to Windows 7.

Helping people regain control over their systems and protecting their data is precisely what Free Software communities do best, making this the perfect opportunity to help Windows 7 users upgrade to something much better: To the Plasma desktop!

OBS Studio

 Mon, 06 Jan 2020 01:22:51 +0100
Last year someone mentioned OBS Studio \o/ and this weekend I could play a bit with it and it is a really nice and powerful tool. It takes a bit to understand the labels and names, but it is really worth trying it. Actually I only misused it to record a window on the screen. There are tools that are much easier for this task, but it was so much fun to play with all the other features of OBS Studio. ;-) So many sources and such a huge list of streaming destinations it supports out of the box. Too bad I don't stream content, this tool is just too nice not to use it.

#^Icinga 2.11
Now we are here, after many months of development – we proudly release Icinga 2.11 available today.

Bleeding edge
It has been an emotional ride with many changes under the hood. The most obvious change is that Icinga’s distributed cluster operates more stable, the past quirks with hanging certificate signing requests or dead-locked TLS handshakes are now gone. This required us to go an unusual route: Evaluate new libraries and programming techniques in order to replace hand-written lower layered code, with later replacing the entire code base for the network stack operations in Icinga. This is a massive effort in quality and stability where users had called out for 3.0 already.

The Director

 Wed, 24 Apr 2019 18:37:38 +0200
#Icinga Director is such a wonderful tool. You pay more attention to your #CMDB and IT documentation and your monitoring system syncs nicely. \o/
For sure it is no out of the box solution, you need to plan and prepare a lot beforehand, but afterwards it is so flexible and nice to use.

#^Monitoring Automation with Icinga – The Director
Image/photo

I’m not going to list all benefits of automating your monitoring system. If you’re here and reading this, you are most likely very aware that maintaining a large infrastructure is a big challenge.
Automating the monitoring process for a huge amount of servers, virtual machines, applications, services, private and public clouds was a main driver for us when we decided to build Icinga 2. In fact, monitoring large environments is not a new demand for us at all. We experienced this challenge in tandem with many corporations for many years. Finally, it lead us to build features like our rule based configuration, Icinga’s REST API and various modules, cookbooks, roles and playbooks for different configuration management tools.

QLC+ 4.12.0 released

 Fri, 16 Nov 2018 00:58:31 +0100
Every time I start this program I am amazed by its progress. Always want to find and set up my lights again, but I need more space. I am really looking forward to QLC+ 5. The previews are so impressive.

#^Nov 10, 2018 QLC+ 4.12.0 release - Q Light Controller+
Today the QLC+ project reaches another important milestone: version 4.12.0.
From a user perspective, this is mostly a bugfix release. However, from a development perspective, this is a HUGE release.
In the last 6 months there's been at least 5 quite invasive reworks, caused by some flawed architectural designs and partly by the QLC+ 5 needs.

Save Code Share - A campaign to call attention to the implications of the EUs Copyright Reform for code sharing

#SaveCodeShare is an initiative launched by the FSFE and OpenForum Europe in September 2017. It aims to bring awareness about the unintended impact of Article 13 of the proposed Copyright Directive on software sharing platforms. Through the research presented in our White Paper, the initiative shows that better awareness is needed to understand where and how innovation takes place in the current market. This is a first step in order to create a proper regulatory framework. And this is what this initiative aims to achieve.

#^Automated Malware Analysis - Cuckoo Sandbox
What is it? In three words, Cuckoo Sandbox is a malware analysis system.

In other words, you can throw any suspicious file at it and in a matter of seconds Cuckoo will provide you back some detailed results outlining what such file did when executed inside an isolated environment.

Malware is the swiss-army knife of cybercriminals and any other adversary to your corporation or organization.

In these evolving times, detecting and removing malware artifacts is not enough: it's vitally important to understand how they operate in order to understand the context, the motivations and the goals of a breach, for better protecting in the future

Cuckoo Sandbox is a free software that automated the task of analyzing any malicious file under Windows, OS X, Linux, and Android.
