This ~~workaround~~ #IT-Nightmare still works for CU9.

Installing latest KB3011140 may crash your Exchange 2013 seriously. Means: All services for Exchange are stopping and youÂ´re day is lost. I tried to install CU7 to include the fix and bring back Exchange 2013 online. It hangs.Telling you, that Microsoft Exchange Service Host is not running. You may check services and realize, that again, all services to run Exchange are stopped and deactivated.

So, installing Transport role will fail again. So start CU7, wait until both services are stopped again, manually switch back to automatic-start and start them again! Then, if youÂ´re lucky, it will fix that issue. DonÂ´t ask me why this happens

Note: Seems you have to repeat service-activation after EACH step! Take care of it or it will fail again.

I think they do this in purpose to get people away from on-premise.
Time to go home.
