Now I wasted time to get some flags displayed for the item's language and then I read this and get insultet:

#^You Should Never Use Flags For Language Choice | Web Builder Zone
Flag icons are pretty (like fam-fam-fam icon set). But flag represents a country, not a language. Isn't it obvious? No, it's obviously not! While I surfed...

damnit :facepalm #fail Next time I should research first. Now I need to find another way how to display it.
But not tonight.:pillow

In the old Friendica language selector (which still exists in Red, though hidden) we used a flag, but a generic flag. Clicking it opened a language select box with language names. From my reading, the author here is suggesting that specific country flags which are mapped to specific languages are bad, but in the absence of any icon that people will recognise as a language setting icon, a flag is the best thing we've got.

I used to use the Australian flag for English and the Canadian flag for French, just to annoy people.

When people complained, I started using the US flag for Mexican, and the UK flag for Polish.

In short, it's a really good way to annoy people - but you probably shouldn't do it unless you're doing it on purpose.
